The picture of good health, Patty can relate to her heaviest and most out-of-shape fitness students far more easily than any of them initially suspects. The Certified Personal Trainer and owner of El Paso’s foremost outdoor fitness camp, remembers only too clearly the day her five-foot frame stepped on the scales as and watched as it stopped at 180 pounds. She didn’t stop eating though, just stopped weighing herself and stopped looking in the mirror, you know, like an ostrich with its head in the sand.
Many, many years later she started learning about health, fitness and nutrition. Patty’s mentors and the undisputed “gurus” of the outdoor fitness trend are Tony and Molli Rathstone, of Southern California whose Inland Empire Boot Camp (www.adventurebootcamp.com) program helped her finally figure out what she wanted to do when she grew up! It took a several years apprenticing with her mentors, attending several California-based fitness seminars a year and finally achieving her ultimate fitness goal of becoming an American Council on Exercise (ACE) Certified Personal Trainer, things she considered crucial.
By Spring 2003, she was ready to start out on her own with Chino Hills Boot Camp, and Riverside Boot Camp. Soon thereafter, she decided to come back home to El Paso and try her hand at helping El Pasoans become healthier and happier with El Paso Boot Camp. The early-morning boot camp classes are held each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday on the West Side at Paul Harvey Park. All boot camps are held outdoors, regardless of season or weather. For 2016, Patty has added ZUMBA as well as the ACE Orthopedic Exercise Specialist Certification to her repertoire – call for specifics!
